Now let’s look at an examiner administering two Writing questions to a first-grade student. As with Reading, these questions were the sample questions on the field test. We are showing them here as you would administer them if they were actual test questions on an operational form.
Questions in which the student is asked to copy a letter are scored 0 for an illegible response or 1 for a legible response. Questions that ask the student to write a word are scored 0 for an illegible response, 1 for a partially correct response, and 2 for a correct and legible response.
Now let’s watch the administration of a test question about English language conventions. This one is about capitalization. There could also be questions about ending punctuation, specifically periods or question marks. These questions are scored "C" for a correct response, "I" for an incorrect response, or "NR" if the student makes no response.
